The Benedictines are immensely important for the Manquehue Movement. It was a monk of the Benedictine monastery of Las Condes in Chile who taught the Movement’s founder, José Manuel Eguiguren, the ancient monastic practice of lectio divina. The English Benedictine Congregation, particularly Ampleforth Abbey and College in England, have provided Manquehue with an inspiring example of how the Rule of St Benedict can be lived out in the active apostolate. And Manquehue is constantly being nourished by the friendship and guidance of numerous monks and nuns. The connection with the Benedictines is much cherished by members of Manquehue.
